Moving Memory changes hearts and minds

An academic researcher from the University of Kent has concluded that Start Stomping – the project we ran last summer, involving an intergnerational company of 25 people taking part in workshops and making a show together – made a significant difference to participants’ attitudes to ageing – both in themselves and towards others. Further evidence demonstrates how important it is for all ages to view ageing positively. If we feel badly about ageing, we feel bad when we ourselves (inevitably) age and feeling bad can turn into measurably poorer health and well-being outcomes. We were delighted that Ian Farr’s report concludes:

“… the intergeneration dance theatre project was a successful intervention to counter negative age stereotypes and negative self-stereotypes which may serve protective functions in terms of health and health behaviours.”
