Moving Memory Dance Theatre is an innovative, collaborative & inclusive physical performance company which has been performing in town centres, public spaces, festivals and theatres for over 10 years.

Our key objective is to make and present striking, visual and meaningful performances, films and installations which surprise and entertain audiences and change peoples’ perspectives of ageing. In the past five years, Moving Memory has performed to over 10,000 people and involved nearly 1000 people in workshops. Our films have been viewed thousands of times on social media.

Led by Creative Director, Sian Stevenson, (who has over 30 years’ experience as a performer, choreographer, director and educator) Moving Memory:

– Challenges people of all ages to change their perspective on ageing. The work we produce, and the way it is produced, addresses the ageism which “leads to poorer health, social isolation, earlier deaths and cost economies billions” (UN report on ageism, March 2021). By showing that getting older can be liberating and life enhancing, and through working intergenerationally, we demonstrate the richness, value and importance of older people’s lives and contributions to local communities.

– Supports older people to have greater access to artistic and creative activities, especially creative movement. We provide arts activities which offer older people ways to find personal satisfaction, fulfilment, and creative ways to well-being.
