Our Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Statement

At Moving Memory Dance Theatre Company, we believe that everyone should feel welcome, valued and able to thrive. We are committed to creating safe, inclusive and accessible spaces for all who engage with us — including participants, audiences, community partners, staff and volunteers.

We co-design our programmes and co-create workshops and performances to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. We actively listen to feedback and work to remove barriers to participation. We celebrate individual differences, oppose discrimination in all its forms and strive to make our work a place where everyone feels a true sense of belonging.

Moving Memory Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Policy

Diversity is a fact of life but inclusion is a choice and a practice. In line with the Equality Act 2010, Moving Memory Dance Theatre Company is committed to eliminating discrimination and ensuring diverse representation among our members and beneficiaries. Our aim is to be truly representative of all sections of society and to ensure that every stakeholder – whether staff, trustee, freelancer, volunteer, partner, participant, or audience member -feels respected, welcomed and able to thrive.

Purpose

This policy is designed to ensure equity and fairness for all stakeholders in the company’s work, including beneficiaries who engage with our programmes and services. We do not tolerate discrimination based on age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race (including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origins), sexual orientation, religion or belief. We oppose all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination.

Our Commitment

We are committed to creating an environment that:

  • Provides a welcoming and safe space for all stakeholders including staff, trustees, volunteers and beneficiaries.
  • Recognises and values individual differences and contributions.
  • Promotes dignity and respect for all.
  • Does not tolerate intimidation, bullying or harassment in any form.
  • Offers training, development and progression opportunities equitably for members of the company.
  • Ensures that our programmes and services are inclusive, relevant, and accessible to all communities we serve.
Beneficiaries as Stakeholders

Moving Memory recognises that our beneficiaries – participants, audiences and community partners – are core stakeholders. We are committed to embedding EDIB principles in the design, delivery and evaluation of our services and programmes. Specifically, we will:

  • Consult with beneficiaries to understand their needs, experiences, and barriers to participation.
  • Use feedback from beneficiaries to shape our practice and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Co-design our programmes in collaboration with members and beneficiaries.
  • Monitor engagement (where appropriate and with consent) to identify gaps and take action to improve inclusivity.
  • Provide safe and accessible mechanisms for beneficiaries to raise concerns or offer suggestions.
Our Actions
  • We recognise that equity in the workplace and in our programmes is both a legal obligation and an ethical commitment that must be reflected in our everyday practices.
  • Our methodologies are grounded in EDIB principles and are embedded at the heart of our work with both members and beneficiaries.
  • We regularly review our policies and procedures to ensure they remain fair, inclusive and up to date.
  • Breaches of this policy will be treated as misconduct and may result in disciplinary action.
  • The Board of Trustees will monitor and review this policy annually.
Code of Practice

The core values and principles of this EDIB policy are encapsulated in our Code of Practice, which is provided to all members of the company and is shared with beneficiaries of our programmes. Compliance with the Code of Practice is expected from everyone involved with Moving Memory.

Grievance and Complaints Procedure

Any member who wishes to raise a concern or complaint will be given access to the company’s formal Grievance and Complaints Procedure. Beneficiaries will also be provided with clear and accessible channels to share feedback, raise concerns or make complaints, which will be addressed promptly and sensitively.
