This autumn, participants in our Moving Well Folkestone sessions will have the chance to take part in an exciting research project in partnership with the University of Kent’s Sports Science team. The idea is simple: to find out just how much good Moving Well can do for your body and brain.
We already know from talking to past participants that the workshops help people feel more confident, flexible, and energised – but now we want to gather real data to back that up.
How will it work?
The research will run in short blocks (6–8 weeks at a time) between September 2025 and April 2026. At the start and end of each block, a few simple health checks will be done – things like:
– Wearing an activity tracker during sessions
– Taking waist and hip measurements
– Recording height and weight
These checks are nothing to worry about and will be done with care and respect for everyone’s comfort. You’ll be supported throughout, and we’ll make sure it’s all relaxed and pressure-free.
Why are we doing this?
This isn’t about judging fitness or weight. It’s about celebrating the real benefits of moving together – from improved strength and balance to feeling happier and more connected. The data we collect will be used to demonstrate to funders, health services, and community leaders that Moving Well isn’t just enjoyable – it works.
The data will also be completely anonymised. With your help, we can build the case for more workshops like this in more places, for more people.
Who can take part?
Anyone joining the Moving Well workshops is welcome to volunteer for the research part too. It’s completely optional – you can come and move without joining the research, and you’ll still be just as welcome.
But if you do want to be involved, you’ll be part of something very special.
