Introducing Moving Well

November 7, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Free

Devised by Moving Memory Dance Theatre, Moving Well is a highly flexible, inclusive, creative movement practice designed to engage older people. Starting with an introduction to gentle movement suitable for all abilities, the practice can eventually result in choreographed performance based on the experiences of participants.

This session is designed for practitioners working with older people – care-workers, activities co-ordinators, health professionals and others – who would like to see how Moving Well could work in any setting.

Evaluation of the practice has provided strong evidence of positive changes for participants in three key areas:

  • Physicality – people move more than they previously did and feel the benefits of this; they are motivated to challenge themselves over time. They say they feel looser, fitter, springier.
  • Connections with others – people open up, listen to others, exchange stories, share ideas, build trust and grow friendships. Laughter and fun are vital ingredients.
  • Emotional well-being – people talk about experiencing a sense of freedom and liberation, of losing themselves in the “flow”, of being inspired, renewed, refreshed.

If these are areas you would like to develop with your clients, please join us for this participatory taster session. Please wear loose clothing that you can move in and bring a bottle of water.

NB the workshop will take place in the Lumley Studio.

This workshop is free but please email info@movingmemorydance.com to reserve a place.
